If you want to undo all changes you made in a file since the last update you need to select the file, right click to pop up the context menu and then select the command TortoiseSVN → Revert A dialog will pop up showing you the files that you've changed and can revert.

If you've made a lot of changes to a file and need to back all of those changes out, you can use the svn revert command. Most subcommands take file and/or directory arguments, recursing on the directories. If you want to revert all changes, this should be the top level folder.

Subversion can do this, but it isn’t via the revert command, instead it’s done with merge.

Committed revision 8. This is one of those annoying little things I have to do ever so often. Rolling back multiple changes (let’s say revisions LOW to HIGH, both inclusive) works the same way: svn merge -r HIGH:LOW-1 . Revert the changes done by commits from the fifth last commit in master (included) to the third last commit in master (included), but do not create any commit with the reverted changes. The merge command requires a directory parameter, the dot just means the current directory. Select the file or folder in which you need to revert the changes. Most of the time this means I can revert my working copy to rev 12345 with this command: svn merge -r HEAD:12345 .

I usually use the eclipse subclipse do do a compare, and pretty sure it is running a varations of the svn diff command behind the scenes and, like you said, even with a small-medium sized repo, it can take a long time to do a compare. "svn revert" throws away *uncommitted* work you've done locally since your last commit. svn will report what the command is going to do, but it won’t actually make any changes to your repo or local copy. svn revert. By far the easiest way to revert the changes from one or more revisions, is to use the revision log dialog.

Note the minus character in front of N. This is the same as the following command (which also works with older subversion clients): svn merge -r N:N-1 . All commands are specified with the parameter /command:abcd where abcd is the required command name. svn reverting on files added but not yet committed will not change those files.
